Last thursday I spent my day in Amersfoort at a symposium about the Textile Industry. The day was filled with interesting speakers talking about the developments in the textile industry. Starting, of course, in the beginning, when clothes were made by tailors. People normally had two or three sets clothing to wear. After the Industrial Revolution the textile industry started to grow faster and we all know where we are now.
A super fast fashion industry.
In the afternoon we talked about two projects which are based on slow fashion. One in Amsterdam, the so called Textile Clothing Bussines Labs. A labaratorium which focuses on research for alternative methods to the current clothing industry. The other project, called I DID, is based in Utrecht and focuses on using textile waste to produce design products.
I felt very inspired at the end of the day. It's exciting that slowly projects are coming up against the current fast fashion industry. I think it is the start of a change. A lot to think about and work on.
Have a great sunday!
