Last weekend was my second sale. A little different than a few weeks ago. I had a personal appointment with this incredible woman I met at the Airport in Bordeaux. She spoke to me while I was waiting for boarding time. She fell for my outfit as I told her I was a starting designer. Later that day I got her message in my mailbox and we made an appointment to meet. Last saterday was the day and I felt so excited. Just the way this situation went felt like a dream. We met in France and now she was right at my door. It turned out she had the same size as me which made the fitting super easy. The looks were amazing on her and it made me so excited to see someone so beautiful looking even more beautiful in my designs.
The past few weeks and months have been exciting. The first sale, meetings, connecting with people, new projects and a new job opportunity (which I will tell you more about in a few weeks). I feel like I'm constantly on the road which I actually totally love. Time management is starting to get more and more important to get everything done as planned. These pictures are speaking for me at this moment. It's a look of my latest collection. The combination of colored and graphic fabrics is inspiring for me and something I will develop more in my new collection. The bag I'm carrying has been my favourite lately and is a creation of Hester van Eeghen.
When I started my creative journey I remember my fear for the unknown. I choosed a path where no one had been before. I found myself caught between the dream of action and the fear of failure. As the regular thought is that a career in the arts exists outside the social and economic reality: "Art won't pay the bill." As I looked at the world around me I saw people unsatisfied in their jobs, always hurried and living their lifes as they were expected to. Not at all what they choosed for or even dreamed of. So what was there to loose? I decided to choose the dream of action. I am wearing a pinstripe jumpsuit which is another look of my collection. Very suitable for my days at the office.
My collection contains several pieces which are easy in combination. Lately I have been wearing a lot of the same color as well for the trouser as for the top. It's so easy to style in the morning. No problems of making the right combinations and ready for the day in just a minute.
Last thursday I spent my day in Amersfoort at a symposium about the Textile Industry. The day was filled with interesting speakers talking about the developments in the textile industry. Starting, of course, in the beginning, when clothes were made by tailors. People normally had two or three sets clothing to wear. After the Industrial Revolution the textile industry started to grow faster and we all know where we are now.
A super fast fashion industry. In the afternoon we talked about two projects which are based on slow fashion. One in Amsterdam, the so called Textile Clothing Bussines Labs. A labaratorium which focuses on research for alternative methods to the current clothing industry. The other project, called I DID, is based in Utrecht and focuses on using textile waste to produce design products. I felt very inspired at the end of the day. It's exciting that slowly projects are coming up against the current fast fashion industry. I think it is the start of a change. A lot to think about and work on. Have a great sunday! A short message to say thank you. Thank you for all the continuing support following my journey in the world of fashion. I realize that one of the chief needs, as human as well as creative being, is support. In ups as well as in downs. I am very thankful for all your messages, phonecalls and likes especially after my first sale a few weeks ago. It means a lot and I really appreciate each and everyone. Thanks again and to all of you joining the path towards a dream, surround yourself with friends and family you love and continue to make small steps everyday. My outfit is a combination of a pinstripe culotte with a woolen sweater which is another look of my collection.
Monday is my favourite day of the week. For me it's a blocked day in the agenda. When everyone is starting the working week, my agenda is always empty. At least one day in the week I need to feel completely free. I start the day with a morning run in the park, followed by yogaclass from one of my best friends. A lot of stretching, mantra singing and all good vibes. The rest of the day I spend designing and writing. Working out new ideas and making plans for coming weeks. For me, this pictures represents how I feel on monday. Comfortable, believing in myself and trusting my dreams.
What about you? Do you take a day off for yourself? At least one day a week to work on your dreams? The past weeks I find myself becoming more and more interested in sustainable fashion. This week I had a meeting with one of my fabric suppliers, which always makes me super excited. She only supplies natural, sustainable and fair trade fabrics. We made a plan to produce this amazing green, woolen fabric for my orders of the sale last week. I am very curious for the results.
If sustainable, fair trade fabrics got your interest as well, take a look at her website www.neidig.nu. I got even more excited when I found out about the Textile symposium on the 10th of November in Amersfoort. The programme contains many speakers, all talking about our present garment industry. It took my interest immediatly and I ordered my ticket at www.textielcommissie.nl. I, personally, can't wait for a more sustainable fashion industry. What about you? One of the great places my sister and I found during the shoot was this beautifull wall of a church. A quiet place and the wall was partially lighted by the sun. A perfect place to shoot one of the looks of my collection.
For this look I choose a blue-grey jumper, made of sustainable wollen fabric, in combination with a skirt made of corduroy. The difference in fabric and the simple silhouette of the look interest me. The last day's I haven't been feeling very well and these pictures reminds me to stay strong and whatever the situation is, always try to catch the light. The day after my first sale I planned to shoot my new collection. Fully packed, I headed towards my photographer, as well as sister, in Utrecht. The day was sunny and the temperature good. My sister and I were excited. Excited to search for great places, beautiful backgrounds and the fact we could work with the lightning of the sun. We really wanted to get the pictures to the next level. These photo's are a glimpse behind the scenes. We work on the street and try to capture unexpected stylish moments. I am a big fan of www.thesatorialist.com and www.styledumonde.com for inspiration. Stay tuned for the results of the shoot coming weeks. I can't wait to share it with you.
